Academic profile

A private, coeducational college founded in 1904. Wentworth Institute of Technology offers bachelor’s degrees with majors in the fields of applied mathematics, architecture, computer science, construction management, design, engineering, engineering technology, and management.

Co-op

Active for more than 30 years, ours is one of the largest and most comprehensive cooperative education programs of its kind in the nation. Every student at Wentworth must complete two semesters (third optional) of professional, paid work experience to graduate.

  • Wentworth has a comprehensive Career Center to assist students in their co-op placements and in career planning, as well as resume writing and interview techniques
  • Co-ops can be done here in Boston, but students may choose to pursue opportunities in their hometown or abroad
  • Student salaries for co-op range from $12- 17 an hour and about 40% of students find full-time employment through a co-op job

Campus life

Wentworth offers housing in co-ed residence halls (rooms or suites) and apartments, with cable, phone and Internet on a wireless campus. Campus includes student center, 75,000-volume library, athletics field, gymnasium, fitness center, bookstore, food- court cafeteria and convenience store. There are more than 50 student organizations and chapter memberships in professional associations. Other resources include Learning, Health, Counseling, and Career centers; and 24-hour campus police.

Colleges of the Fenway

The Colleges of the Fenway is one of Boston’s largest academic collaborations. This partnership with Emmanuel, Simmons, and Wheelock colleges, Massachusetts College of Art, and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences features cross-registration, combined social events, and an expanded campus community.

Admissions

Wentworth practices rolling admissions, which means applications are reviewed as they are received. However, we recommend that students submit applications by February 15 if they will also be applying for financial aid. Transfer students are welcome. Students are encouraged to apply online; the online application and paper application fee is $50.

Costs

Tuition: $24,000 per academic year (2011- 12). Typical room and board: $11,300 per academic year. Tuition includes a laptop outfitted with the software used in the student’s academic major. No additional lab, athletics or student activities fees.

Financial aid

More than 75 percent of Wentworth students receive financial aid. Wentworth offers both merit scholarships and need-based financial aid. The FAFSA is required to be considered for federal aid. The average financial aid package is about $7500.
